Polyana 540, apartment 34
daily from 13:00 to 23:00
Krasnaya Polyana is the oldest mountain resort in Russia, founded in the late 19th century and developed during Soviet times. In the late 1990s, Krasnaya Polyana became a mecca for many off-piste skiing lovers, and in early 2014 the slopes of Krasnaya Polyana hosted the XXII Olympic Winter Games. Today, Krasnaya Polyana doesn’t just attract the many lovers of active winter and summer recreation – it’s also a major tourist destination.
The organizers of the Museum of Friends have endeavored to create a space that combines sports, history and education both for lovers of off-piste skiing and active recreation in the Western Caucasus mountains and all guests of the Krasnaya Polyana Resort.
The Museum of Friends is a space built not to honor the museum’s collection, but to foster a community. The museum focuses on the history of off-piste skiing in Russia and the founding of Krasnaya Polyana, which will be of interest to every visitor. A separate and significant chapter in the history of Krasnaya Polyana is the XXII Olympic Winter Games in 2014, and the museum provides information about the facilities and the competitions that have taken place here.
The museum exhibition will include historic snowboard and ski models, photographs of off-piste skiing and outdoor activities, as well as other artefacts such as historical photographs, terrain maps, ski passes, competition numbers, sports awards, and samples of snowboards and alpine skis from future collections.
To enrich the museum club’s collection, active cooperation with Krasnaya Polyana residents and people interested in off-piste skiing and alpine skiing is being encouraged: everyone will be able to contribute to the exhibition with archival photos and artefacts that could be of interest to museum visitors.
Organized group tours are possible.
Rental test centre
The museum showcases historical examples of snowboards and alpine skis, as well as future collections. There are 50 sets of sports equipment, some of which will be available for rental or testing.
The museum club is an ‘anti-museum’. It is a place for like-minded people to gather, reminisce about the past and make plans for the future together. There will be viewings and discussions of historical videos and newsreels.
Minibar and gift shop
There is a minibar and accessory shop at the museum, where all visitors can relax and buy something to remind them of their time in the mountains.
